Recommendation
Spanish for Children – Suzy Dorn
If you want to help you kids from ages 2-7 (or even younger) learn Spanish skills, I definitely recommend the Susy Dorn - Let's Sing in Spanish Course. Research has proven that up to age 10 kids can learn to have almost perfect pronunciation in a foreign language. My professional opinion is that this course will definitely help with that as well as give them a great jump start learning vocabulary in Spanish.
I took the CDs and a DVD home to try them on my children and here is what I found:
The DVD
My 4 year old absolutely loved the DVD. It has Suzy Dorn in a Sesame Street-style atmosphere teaching Spanish in a simple yet effective way through pictures, songs and fun situations. He couldn’t stop watching it. He liked it so much he kept restarting it over and over again. After a week, we had probably watched it about 20 times. The only drawback with the DVD is that in a few areas it does look a little low budget in some of the settings, however, my 4 and 6 year olds didn’t even notice.
As far as age groups for the DVD, I already mentioned how much my 4 year old liked it. My 6 year old watched it about 5 or 6 times and liked it. My 10 year old daughter said that it was a bit “babyish” but still watched it 2 or 3 times, and my 12 year-old daughter watched about ½ of it and left. (She was “too mature” for it). My official recommendation for the DVD is for kids from 0 to 8 years old. If they still like Sesame Street, they’ll probably like this DVD.
Audio CD
My 4 year old liked to listen to the audio CDs and would sing some of the songs afterward. However, my 6 year really old loved them and figured out that the big picture books go along with the CDs. He loved to follow along in the picture books as he listened to the CDs.
The tunes on the CDs are very catchy and our whole family has been singing them for days.
Official Recommendation
With the few limitations I mentioned about the DVD, I highly recommend this Spanish for Kids Course to anyone wanting to help their child learn Spanish words as well as start developing great pronunciation skills (that are more difficult to master after age 10).
