Spanish Lessons - Culture ----- A humorous mistake from lack of Spanish
This week I'm going to tell you about a humorous textbook case of why it's important to learn Spanish.
Quite a few years ago Chevy® decided to start selling the Chevy Nova in Latin America. It sent down the cars to dealerships but sales were incredibly low. For some time Chevy couldn't figure out why no one wanted to buy this new car. Finally they realized that the word "No va" in Spanish means "It doesn't go"! So, basically Chevy® was trying to sell a car in Latin America that was called "Chevy It doesn't go". Of course, you can imagine why nobody wanted to buy such a car!
After they realized what was happening, the name was quickly changed and sales began to rise.
A lot of people think you can get by speaking English to Spanish speakers. Sometimes if Spanish speakers don't understand, the English speaker will speak louder thinking it will help them understand better. There is no substitute for really learning the Spanish language well.
With our Visual Link Spanish™ course, an instructor walks you through every step of learning Spanish. You don't just learn individual words, instead you learn how to put them together to form sentences as well as ask and answer questions. You also learn how to sound like a native speaker, and the subtle nuances of speaking Spanish. Our #1 goal is to help you learn Spanish correctly using fun and easy methods! After purchasing the course, many people e-mail us with Spanish questions and we are glad to help you out. Click here to learn Spanish with our free Spanish lessons.
Good luck in your quest to learn Spanish!
